Art Therapy is defined by the American Art Therapy Association (2017) as the use of different mediums, imagery, and creative processes between client and therapist to reinforce and strengthen the well-being of an individual. It is a mental health profession that has helped individuals to increase cognitive abilities, sensory-motor functions, positive self-esteem and sense of self, foster emotional resilience, promote insight, develop and increase social skills, conflict resolution, trauma processing and so much more!
Using techniques such as arranging images on a page, gluing, and painting, encourage processing in an active way for individuals. Working with an art therapist and engaging in this process, clients are incentivized to explore memories in a tactile and visual manner.
